The Mapleguard is our newly-acquired DRV built by Titan Boats in Sydney, Vancouver Island, BC. We gratefully acknowledge the financial and in-kind support which made this acquisition possible. The major source of funds was the BC Gaming Commission, but Regional Districts, local service clubs, businesses and individuals stepped up to the plate to keep our waters safe. The list of donors is posted on our storage shed at the Deep Bay docks.
**Lee England and Henri Niet have taken medical leaves of absence. Richard Wahlgren was elected Unit Leader in Fall 2009. Ted Vitanov retired from active service at the May 2010 monthly meeting after many years of service. He will be missed.
The CCGA welcomes our newest members Phil Dyke, Bob Fleming, Larry Highcock, Hugh Jackson, Richard Porter, Bon Thorburn and Bill Veenhof. We also welcome Junior members James and Daniel Wahlgren.
Unit 59 has entered into an agreement with Marine Training Association (MTAC) so that we can provide course material, examinations and PCOC cards to clients who wish to obtain their "license to drive a boat". The PCOC card was originally intended to regulate youth operating power-driven boats and personal watercraft. It is now required by anyone operating a watercraft less than 4 m in length. As of September 2009, it is required for everyone operating a power-driven watercraft of any size.
